Le Groupe Lorraine. Du désert libyen à la libération de l'Europe 1941-1945

In September 1941, the Free French Air Force assigned the names of occupied French provinces to its combat units. Bombardment Group No. 1, just created from the Reserved Bombardment Group No. 1 (veteran of Koufra and Abyssinie), thus took the name of "Lorraine". Equipped with Bristol Blenheim aircraft, he took part in Operation Crusader in Libya against German and Italian troops.

Repatriated in early 1943 to England and equipped with Doublas Boston, the "Lorraine" was then engaged in low-flying bombardments, the eradication of V-1 launch sites or even in the Normandy landings. A few weeks before the end of hostilities, it was finally converted to North American Mitchell to carry out its last combat missions over Germany.

Throughout the pages, we accompany the airmen of the unit in combat from the oasis of Kufra to the ruins of Nazi Germany. Comprising more than 300 photos, 12 color profiles and 10 maps, this book gives pride of place to the testimonies of the airmen themselves.
