After the Second World War, the "Lorraine" Group returned its bombers to the Royal Air Force and rejoined the Air Force. During the following decades, the unit carried out reconnaissance and night fighter missions on Mosquito and Meteor, all-weather fighter on Vautour before finally switching to "pure" fighter on Mirage F1. Today, the "Lorraine" is a multi-role squadron on Dassault Rafale on the front line to defend NATO's eastern flank. Engaged from the very beginning in Operation "Chammal" against the Islamic State in Iraq and then in Syria, the squadron has also been a member of NATO's Tiger Brotherhood since 2016.
In this book, we accompany the men and women of the "Lorraine" from Gilze-Rijen in 1945 to Mont-de-Marsan today, via Agadir, Rabat, Tours, Reims and Al-Dhafra.
Based on archive documents and testimonies from former and current Rafale pilots, this richly illustrated book tells the story of this beautiful unit of Free French Air Force traditions in a unique way.
