When Wing Leader published Volume 13 of the Battle of Britain series, they realized they had too much material to fit into the September 15 book. This was of course the day the RAF claimed 185 victories and those combat reports alone would have filled an entire volume (!) so they decided to print all this extra material in an extra volume for those who would interested.
This supplement is also an opportunity to dig deeper into this famous day of battle and find out more about what really happened.
The final 80-page book therefore forms an essential complementary volume to Vol 13 of the main series. It includes the following:
- The "legend" of the day of the Battle of Britain.
- Force and effort of the Luftwaffe.
- Fighter Command tactics.
- Goering's reaction.
- Effect on Unternehmen Seelöwe.
- The legacy of "excessive claiming".
- Exits carried out by RAF pilots.
- Additional combat reports.
The center 46 pages cover the operational flights of each RAF squadron on 15 September with pilot/aircraft serial number/aircraft code recorded where possible with times and victory claims. This is the first time this has been published in such detail for any day in the Battle of Britain and really gives the reader an impression of The Few's activity that day.
