Dear readers,
You have in your hands the penultimate episode of the gigantic Battle of the Marianas, also known as the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Throughout the issues, you have undoubtedly appreciated the precision to which Bernard Baéza has accustomed us in all his historical accounts of the various Pacific campaigns. We now realize the enormous resources deployed by both sides, and especially by the United States, in an effort to liberate the territories held by the Japanese. I couldn't help but compare the pivotal role played by the Americans at that time with today's America, whose leaders seem oblivious to their nation's recent past. This nation was great through its actions, not through its words, which were often aggressive, discriminatory, and even conquering, when the president, whose name I will not mention, declared that he wanted to possess Greenland or Canada at all costs. What has become of America? Could it be returning to the days of the Wild West, a time when this country was violently built at the expense of indigenous peoples, and expanded no less violently by waging war on its neighbors? Perhaps this is the true American character! Time will tell... Nevertheless, this president and his team are likely to be unanimous: their country could soon be hated by all, rejected, isolated. Make America Great Again, but not like this!
In the meantime, immerse yourself in this fascinating issue.
