Born in 1934, the mythical car designed by André Citroën will experience, because of the events that plunge the world into war five years later, a surprisingly rich military career. In September 1939, thousands of them joined our armies during the phoney war, then experienced the horrors of disaster.
In June 1940, Traction changed sides, in spite of itself. And the Germans, who are very fond of it, will drive it everywhere in Europe, from the Arctic Circle to distant Russia. But, from the end of 1942, the Traction appears again under our flags, engaged this time victoriously in the campaign of Tunisia, with strange armored versions. Then it is the liberation of France, the epic of the maquis, the white stars and the three letters F.F.I. which flourish on the bodywork. The "Belle de Javel" then became one of the symbols of resurgent France before serving for another fifteen years under the flag.
