The second Luftwaffe dive bombing squadron, the St.G. 2, was very quickly referred to as 'Hans-Ulrich Rudel's Unit' as early as 1945. If this aviator marked the squadron of his charisma, the St.G. 2 can not however be reduced to the exploits of a single pilot, even of exception. It was indeed one of the rare units to fly from the first to the last day of the Second World War, operating until the end on the famous Ju 87, the Stuka, while using its various versions (from A to G). If H-U Rudel was the most decorated German pilot, the St.G. 2 included more than 100 Knights of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuzträger), many of whom fell on the front. Feared by his opponents on the eastern front, the St.G. 2 was going to specialize in the last months of the war in the destruction of armored vehicles.
Volume I covers the period from the prewar period to the important Kursk tank battle in 1943, the pivotal episode of the war in the east. This history, the first in French, of about 290 pages, is accompanied by nearly 600 photographs and color profiles of Thierry Dekker. Do not miss !
