At the Trident Conference in Washington in May 1943, the landing area was chosen for Overlord: rather Normandy in Pas-de-Calais. The density of German divisions is much stronger in the latter sector and above all it does not have enough beaches and ports allowing rapid strengthening of the bridgehead.
