The German Jagdgeschwader 4 was created in 1942 and was deployed in Romania in 1943 to defend the oilfields and refining facilities near Ploesti, where it also took part in the defense against the famous American low-altitude attack of August 1943 (Operation Tidal Wave). Subsequently, JG 4 was engaged in Italy, then on the Normandy front, and finally in the air defense of the Reich. The first volume of this squadron chronicle, planned in two parts, describes in detail the set-up, organization and complete mission history of a German fighter squadron that was tested in countless air battles. Missions are described virtually day by day. (Mombeek)
