Following the Allied landings in North Africa in November 1942, the entire southern zone of the metropolis was militarily occupied by the German army. As a result, the activity that Air France had maintained until then was profoundly modified, with no connection being possible between the overseas territories and mainland France. The operation of the metropolitan lines was completely suspended in 1943, the part of the fleet remaining in France having been seized by the occupation authorities, or made available in principle to German civil transport services.
