Evoking the life of a pilot of the Naval Air Force embarked on an aircraft carrier in Indochina during the operations carried out in 1952, 53 and 54, this book is in fact taken from the Memoirs that the author intended for his children. Here we have taken the chapters that directly concern the activity of the pilots of the Naval Air Force during the last years during which the fate of Indochina was played out. It is a book intended for comrades in arms, those of yesteryear but also those who today or tomorrow will have a vocation to become one.
Although the author does not deviate from it, one should not look for History in it, nor for the account of daily activities. What this book expresses is a slice of life - almost three years - as it appears in memory fifty years later.
These Memoirs, written by a sailor, take us on a journey throughout Indochina while making us participate in all the major operations that marked the last three years of war in this region of the world. In particular, the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, an episode that was both glorious and tragic, which the author experienced from start to finish, first as a pilot, then as an infantryman.
Reading this book, we become familiar with the combatants, whoever they are, their actions, their states of mind, but also their sensibilities, the author never holding back from saying what he feels. This is the second edition. The first, printed in 2,500 copies, is sold out. About twenty illustrations have been replaced.
