A work that you have acclaimed, finally available again in April 2025! (First edition 2009).
The series of "Escorts of the French Union", very well designed for its time, innovated in terms of new technology of armament, propulsion and habitability (air conditioning, bunks, etc.) These were excellent ships for their marine and military qualities. These vessels unfortunately suffered from their distance from the metropolis and their thirty years or more on all the seas of the globe.
Eight years of meticulous work allowed the two authors to give us a testimony that is at once technical, lively and human.
The Authors:
- Patrick Houy, born in 1948 in Oran, rubbed shoulders with the sailors of the Arzew base from his childhood. Attracted by the maritime world, he enlisted in the "Royale". He served on board ships and surface as well as submarines during his 22-year career.
- Jacques Ducros, born in 1944 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, has always been passionate about reading and the Navy. Enlisted at a very young age in the "Royale" by vocation and "daydreams", he embarked on the Admiral Charner, a beautiful brand new ship, and carried out the first 27-month campaign around the world in 1962. It is easy to imagine that this extraordinary initiatory voyage marked him for life... like all our sailor friends and former sailors who served on these "sea wanderers" that were the escort notices that represented France on all the seas of the globe.
This book totals 384 pages, more than 800 photos as well as plans and drawings.
