When the word autochenille enters the conversation between old car enthusiasts, the association of ideas immediately leads to the mention of two names that have become legendary: Citroën and Kégresse. If we do not present the first, the second is no less famous for having invented, developed and brought to the series stage a system of flexible tracked thrusters replacing the rear wheels of commercial vehicles. Thus were born the first "all-terrain", light half-tracks capable of driving on the road as well as on varied soils. And of course, the main customer for this new family of vehicles will be the French army.
For the first time, all the unarmored Citroën-Kégresse vehicles used under the tricolor from the 1920s to 1940 are reviewed, respecting the chronology, the technical evolution of the equipment and their various military uses: liaison cars, medical cars, light artillery and airfield tractors, transport of dragoons, medium recovery tractors, etc. No model is forgotten, each one is treated by granting the first place to the illustration, following a sequence solidly structured by the rigor of analysis and customary synthesis of the author.
